Weird problem on WAV files |
|
|
Hi all.
I recently installed my brand new PC, with Windows XP Home and SP2.
After installation of a few sound-related packages I started to
experience an annoying issue, where the vast majority of my WAV files
(the one coded as PCM 44.100 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo) do not play correctly
on SOME (but not all) sw players.
To be precise they sound like an extremely accelerated high-pitch noise
(just a few seconds, instead of playing minutes) for example on these
players:
-) WMP version 9 (I tried to substitute it with 10, but it didn't
change anything)
-) Nero Showtime
-) Creative playcenter
However the same files are played correctly on other players, like:
-) Winamp
-) Audacity
-) The good 'ol Windows Sound recorder (sndrec32.exe)
-) Nero Mediaplayer
I started then to suspect the problem to be related with audio codecs,
so I verified that loading one of such wav files in WMP 10 and opening
the info window it seems that the file is seen by WMP as an mp3 instead
of PCM 44100 Khz! (no surprise then about the high speed resulting
sound .... and probably the same occurs in the other strange behaving
players, then)
But looking into the control panel the audio codecs list, it seems that
only the standard codecs are loaded (and I even tried to reinstall them
all, but didn't change anything)
NOTE: all other wav files ( NOT PCM 44.100 kHz) plays just fine
everywhere. I am clueless and have no idea what else to try. :'(
HELP!
Thanks in advance,
M.E.A.

(speaking for myself and doing this in my free time)

Now Playing: "Ladyflash [Hot Chip Remix]" by "The Go! Team" in WMP10.
