I downloaded an audio file that actually has 2 songs on it.I only want one of
the songs...can this file be edited to erase one of the songs??

Sure. All you need is audio editing software. Your sound card probably came
with editing software. Microsoft Sound Recorder is a very basic sound editor
that comes with Windows. You can also buy such software.

You'll find the software that came with your sound card in the Start menu.
Microsoft Sound Recorder is sndrec32.exe. You can find sound editing
software at any big box store that sells software, e.g., CompUSA or Best
Buy.
