Hello,

I'm trying to explain problem regarding license store. It's possible to backup and restore license store. However, during license aquisition DRM client component sends to DRM server 'clientInfo', which contains so 'Client ID' attribute. There is no explanation of this attribute in DRM documentation.

The only info is as follows:

Version 9 content header (backward compatible with version 7.1). The key ID used to create a key.

a.. A content ID to uniquely identify the encrypted content.
b.. Attributes that identify the content.
c.. A URL identifying the Internet address of the license issuer (the license acquisition URL).
d.. The minimum application security version number required to play content.
a.. Information about the consumer's computer.
a.. An encrypted client ID.
b.. The version of Windows Media Rights Manager on the consumer's computer.
c.. The individualized version number on the consumer's computer.
d.. Information about the secure audio path (SAP) kernel component.
The problem is, that there are competitve DRM solutions, working in similar way, where relevant attribute is generated basing on computers hardware components. The result is, that in those solutions DRM license store behaves like activation in XP. Significant change in configuration prevents licenses to use them correctly.

The question is, if there is similar mechanism in MS DRM and what is the role of clientInfo attribute generated during request ?

This attribute must be generated, in case of lack of this two requests from two not-individualized players requesting the license for the same media would be the same, and this is of course unacceptable.
