Media Player behind proxy occasionally does not receive DRM |
|
|
We have implemented DRM for protecting .wmv files. The web server
farm is successfully delivering licenses and the videos are playing
fine from our testing that is done that is NOT behind our company
proxy.
When testing behind our company proxy (corporate internet firewall
proxy server), the Media Player license acquision window opens, then
the corporate proxy logon dialog opens. After successful proxy login,
Media Player occasionally fails to display the page at the URL for
license acquision. The window is solid black, with the CPU pegged at
100%. Closing the license acquisition window then attempting to
acquire the license again works, as the proxy dialog doesn't come up
the 2nd time (already logged in from 1st time). The license is then
acquired fine.
Some XP machines have around a 25% failure rate, and some have more
around 90% failure rate.
Media Player 10 Tech Beta had the same problem. Media Player 8 with
the security upgrade does not have this problem and works every time.
Anyone run into this or have ideas for workarounds?

This is a scenario that I am currently investigating so your post is very
timely. Questions:
- What proxy are you using?
- What type of authentication are you using (Basic/NTLM/Kerberos/etc)?
- Does the proxy use standard credential collection (eg the browser pops a
credential dialog window) or are you directed to a web page to put in
credentials into edit boxes on the page?
- Do you see the same issues when accessing DRM licenses with Corona through
the same proxy (it sounds like you see the problem only with v9 and v10)?
- How is your browser configured to use the proxy (auto proxy
detection/WPAD, hard coded for a specific proxy, etc)?
- Are you using any kind of "remote winsock" such as ISA's firewall client?

I will need to consult with a few others to gather that information, thanks.

1) What proxy are you using? =squid proxy
2) authentication= basic password
3) Does the proxy use standard credential collection = yes
4) browser configured to use the proxy = hard coded for a specific
proxy
5) Are you using any kind of "remote winsock" such as ISA's firewall
client?= no
For the question about Corona, I am taking Corona to mean Media Player
9. Do you distinguish between different builds of 9? I received the
problem with different builds of Media Player 9, which includes
installing several security patches, including the latest patch from
the Microsoft Download site. All patches installed were referenced in
various support articles for Media Player 9. I didn't expect any
patch to affect the problem but tried them anyway. |
