I d/l'ed mediaplayer 9 thinking that might fix it, but it
asks if I want the DRM thing to do its thing and I say ok
then it immediately says A connection with the server
could not be established. Anybody know what I can do to
fix this? I have dialup if that matters at all.

It isn't clear to me what it is that your player is trying to do. Are you
presented with a dialog box that tells you that you need a "Security
Upgrade"? If not then this may an attempt for the content to acquire a DRM
license.

Can you provide me some information about your configuration?
-What OS are you using?
-What player (eg. v9, v8, v7, etc)?
-Are you using dialup or broadband?
-Do you use an "accelerated" ISP (such as AOL, June, NetSpeed) or an
"Accelerated web service" (such as MarketScore)?
-What speed is your connection to the net?
-Are you behind a proxy/firewall/nat?
-Are you using personal firewall software and/or Windows' Internet
Connection Firewall (ICF)?
-Do you share your network connection with other users (such as your family
sharing the same DSL line)? If so, do other downloads take a long time or do
you see high throughput?

Some users on the net have installed a leaked beta of the new player. For
these users they are unable to Individualize (ie. Upgrade Security
Components). They may need to wait until the public beta of the player is
available. Then they can install the beta and see if this fixes the problem.

I work in a call center and we get this most of the time. If you try to restart your computer it should fix it. Otherwise open wmp and go under tools then options, and make the one is checked where it says to connect to the internet (overrides any other command). Hopefully this solves the proble

I have the same problem.

Using XP Home edition, WMP V9, and broadband. I don't
know about the accelerated connection, the connection
speed is 576Kbps. I am using the windows firewall, as
well as personal firewall. No one shares this
connection, and my downloads are very speedy.

Could it be that using both firewalls is causing the
problem? I would be grateful for any help. Thanks,
Leanne.
