WMF SDK 9.5 |
|
|
If I Install SDK 9.5 instead of WMF SDK 9 and recompile the software, will
my software run on windows 2000, or on XP only?

No, you can only install and use the 9.5 SDK on WinXP - no matter how
galling that might be unfortunately it seems to be the requirement for
install.

You didn't understand my question. I don't care about machine for
development. If WinXP is requirement for development because of WMF SDK,
that's okay with me. At the moment I am using 9.0 SDK. My question is:
If I install 9.5 SDK now and recompile the software. Will that new
recompiled software (previously compiled with SDK 9.0) work on windows 2000,
or on XP only.

You're right, I misread what you were asking.
Some features which are XP only will remain so even if you use the
WMP10 SDK. An example might be if you wanted to use a SKIN and the
VIDEOSETTINGS -- this attribute is only available for XP.
That's for the player SDK (10) at least.
There are a few new things available in SDK10 over and above those in
SDK9. You could anticipate being able to use the new codecs such as
low-latency audio, and the 'Video 9 Image v2' codecs, and have those
download to the players. Unfortunately the download system isn't the
best, and I haven't tried this with the new codecs yet.
Anyway I digress, the question you asked was whether you could
redistribute the SDK as part of your App, and have it work on 2000.
I really don't know. However, the code listed here under 'Detecting
Setup Status' should be enough to find out : It will either work or
fail on 2k. Now all you have to do is find a 2k box ;-))
