Media Player opens in webpage, but sits on logo |
|
|
Hello, I'm having a bit of an issue. When I go to a webpage that has an embedded wmv file, the media player window sits there with the MS logo. It's not buffering, the internet connection is fine, all local files play fine.
One thing I've noticed though is that when I'm on another machine, the embedded video player looks like the media player 10, yet on the machine I'm having problems with, it looks like the classic player.
I have Media Player 10 installed on my computer and I have it set for all the defaults I can find.
Does anyone have any ideas?

If you right-click on it when it's sitting there, does it have "Error
Details"?

What is the URL to a page that shows this error?

i understand. if there is a quicktime or real player video the player appears
perfect and plays the movie. this only happens with media player. the only
thing i see on the page is the buttons on the bottom. i dont even see the box
where the movie appears. And this has happened on absolutely every time the
movie is for windows media player. So its fair to say the player does not
look correct because it only shows the buttons, nothing else. the thing is. i
have looked through every internet config and wmp config. nothing changed
this. but thanks for the help. if you have any clue give me a buzz. ;) |

Alright. Then two questions come to mind:
* Does the player *look* correct in the web page?
and:
* What is a URL that shows this error?
The last question is important. No one can help you if they don't
understand the specifics of what kind of page is causing you problems. =)
Kind regards,

Can you supply a screenshot of the player in this broken state on a web
page? I feel like we're at cross-purposes here.
One of the critical reasons I repeatedly ask you to supply a URL is because
that allows us to ferret out the content URL, which you can then try in your
stand-alone player as a critical validator. If you can't supply that
information, I'm afraid I can't help you any further. =)

As you snipped out the entire message from 'joaolc' we have no idea at
all what you're referring to. Why not post your problem, as it's
almost certainly going to be different despite your claim.

Re: Media Player opens in webpage, but sits on logo |

Hi people,
I get this same problem and have for some time, I've tried this in IE and
Firefox. (as my mate kept saying it was cause I was using IE) I've tried
reinstalling and uninstalling, etc.. WMP but no joy.
Everytime I try and play ANY embedded video that needs WMP to play it says
'Connecting to media...' and then 'Ready'. Nothing plays and I get no error
message. I've put up with this as I could always press right mouse button,
find the link and then type that into the browser to load the actual video
directly into WMP, where it plays fine.
However, the latest clips I want to play are protected so I can't copy the
direct link.
You want an example.. http://www.tv.com/threshold/show/32983/videos.html. I
am just trying to click on the 'Brainstorming session' for the new show
Threshold and I get the same as I do for any embedded video.
I've had a read through the forums and seen mention of it being the wrong
version but when I click About in the browser and it tells me it's version 10
so it can't be that.
I'm using XP SP2 and keep it up to date with WMP 10.00.00.3646.
I work in IT so happy to go fiddling with the registry, etc, if need be.
Cheers,
Kris. |

Re: Media Player opens in webpage, but sits on logo |

Hi Kris,
I had this exact same problem today. So far as I can tell, the problem was
with another application that had installed itself as a LSP ("Layered
Service Provider") into the Windows TCP/IP stack... It was interfering with
the WMP ActiveX control such that it could not connect to the media. Oddly
enough, the standalone Windows Media Player didn't seem to be affected in
the same way, so opening the same stream in the standalone player made it
work fine.
LSP-Fix (http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm) is what I used to remove the extra
LSP's. Be sure to only remove the LSPs that are not associated with
Microsoft/Windows, or else you could seriously break all TCP/IP
connections... In my case, once I removed the LSPs, everything returned to
normal.
Hope that helps. Please post and let me know.
