Im getting an err message: 80040E09 from Windows media player when trying to
add currently playing to library in WMP:10, this err message is related to
read/write access of databases in Exchange server and Jet Database etc
(Source Technet)

The err was also persistant with WMP:9 which along with the references to
databases leads me to wonder where does WMP write to in the OS for data
storage of info other than simple (works) playlists. Any ideas??

I can't think of any reason why you'd be seeing an OLEDB error in
windows media. The only thing that springs to mind is to see if MDAC
is up to date - this is a wild stab in the dark though !

Usually MDAC is listed as a download in the MS XP update.
If not, try here and see if it helps (it won't do any harm to try) :

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=6c050fe3-c795-4b7d-b037-185d0506396c&DisplayLang=en

NB it does state on that page : "This release does not include
Microsoft Jet, the Microsoft Jet OLE DB Provider or ODBC driver, the
Desktop Database ODBC Drivers, or the Visual FoxPro ODBC Driver."

Cheers - Neil

Thanks Neil,

I downloaded the MS-JET-Database thingy last night and compared it with my
system32, after a search I found more recent copies of the Jet-Download from
the SP2 update.

Ive tried your idea below, and the install reported: "That RDAC is
incompatible with this version of windows. All features are currently part
of Windows"

Good try though! Given that the err code is a database read-right permission
err, perhaps I can check the permission if I knew which file WMP was
accessing to produce the error. Can this be done?? How could I do this??

Cheers

HURRAH! START PRIZE FOR ERIN!

I couldnt open the media folder "access denied" so I replaced the ownership
rights and bingo everything worked a treat!

Thanks Erin, I had posted the thread on almost all the newsgroups and
everyone was stumped apart from you!!

I had looked at the media folder BUT not in /local!! I had gone straight to
/AppData and found no problems. Not the first time, always anoys me backing
up Outlook.pst files, being located in /Local/Appdata aswell as /AppData,
bad carma to use same files names I always think.

Cheers Erin, now I can add my playlist to my PCMCIA 2gb card and listen to
my music on my IPAQ3630 (which by the way had failed to sync with WMP10
storage card) so only my Tablet PC (with corrupt WMP) had a PCMCIA slot!!

God it would have been easier to have bought an IPOD. ;)

Guessing from your other post, you are looking to rebuild your library.
Just rename the files at C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player and relaunch the player,
then try researching.
Thanks,
