I'll make this brief. After a break-down, WMP 10 hasn't been able to stream
anything at all. It doesn't load the file. Has anyone got an idea to what
might have happened?

Actually a little too brief. You missed out the facts.

What sort of break down - lost hard drive + reinstall ? Overwrote one
of the program files ? Virus or spyware infestation ?

I can't see the web address or media server listed which you're trying
to 'stream' from, care to post it so it can be tested ?

No. If you prefer, we can guess what your problem is, but it would be
more helpful to post details of what changed, if the player worked
before, what's not working now and which version of media player
you're using (Help meun->About windows media)

Thanks so far..

Breakdown: By computer blacked out totally, while trying to stream a little
video. No windows-bluescreen, nothing. Afterwards, I rebooted, and
everything's been fine since, except WMP.(Windows Media Player, v
10.00.00.3646 )

It's no file in particular I can't stream, it's any. For example Yahoo's
Launch musicvideos.

Hope this will help, and thanks for helping me out..

So, just to confirm : Reinstalling media player (which would 'refresh'
or repair broken media player program files) - you've tried that, and
it had no effect ?

In terms of video types, can you otherwise play videos in media player
off a CD, DVD or your computers disk ? That could point to a specific
problem if there's a difference between where the files come from.

What happens if you try to run local videos? Do those work?

I wanted to reinstall the program, but I couldn't find it anywhere. How do
you do it?

Local files work perfectly..

Set
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\PlayerUpgrade\PlayerVersion
to something lower than 10,0,0,3646 and simply install the originial WMP
setup that can be found either at https://www.microsoft.com/download or
http://www.windowsmedia.com. Be aware that this will reinstall DRM
components if you removed them.

BTW, @Neil, do you know when they'll update the setup to the 3802 build,
when the 3802 build will be available for Win2K3 an if they ever make it
work on Win2K?

No, sorry I don't know anything about specific timings ;-)
Are you experiencing a problem with the current builds ?

I've yet to install the 2K3 update on my boxen, due to pressure of
time in other projects. It's due in the next few weeks so 'm looking
forward to trying out the new features.

RE Win2000[Pro] version, I'd like them to release for 2K but it seemed
hard enough to get info on if/when WM10 would be available for 2K3
server ... if you think about it, it *had* to be released for 2K3 so
the server could work with WM10 features.

In contrast I don't think it's likely there'll be a release for
Win2000 desktop versions and possibly not even for Win2000 server.
Although that's only guesswork, I haven't seen any language which
indicates a release for those platforms - which is a shame cause I
*hate* XP so all my desktops here are on Win2k :-P
