Hi,

I have a version 9 server and have set it up to stream from a publishing point other than wmpub and I've tried from wmpub. For some reason, I cannot get it to stream a file from the publishing point root. I actually have to write out the full path. Here's what I mean:

Here is the publishing point

mms://www.yourmusicnetwork-media.net/ymnmedia

Now, this should work right:

mms://www.yourmusicnetwork-media.net/ymnmedia/683311052427/683311052427-1.wmv

It doesn't. I have to actually do:

mms://www.yourmusicnetwork-media.net/ymnmedia/mediafiles/683311052427/683311052427-1.wmv

This is not what the documentation says. And I'm not actually convinced it's streaming. The log file show nothing even though it logs just fine during the test.

I have a feeling that my firewall may be an issue, but I have UDP ports open.

Any ideas here? Anybody run into this problem before?

thanks,
-Trish

What is the path for your YMNMEDIA publishing point? Does
that include the "mediafiles" directory in the path?

Also, would you happen to have web server running on port
80? If so, which directory is the web server root pointing
to? (I am guessing one directory above the mediafiles
directory).

It is possible that if your firewall has not opened the
right ports (like 554,1755 etc.), your client is rolling
over to HTTP (because MMS/RTSP streaming will fail). And
if you have web server running with the right directory
mapping, your file probably gets downloaded instead of
streamed to the player.

You can stop the web service and see if the files are
still reachable. If not, then the rollover is what is
happening.

For more details on opening the firewall/ports, please
check http://support.microsoft.com/?id=827562. If you
don't want to open more ports, but if you are okay with
web service not running - then you can enable the Windows
Media Server's WMS HTTP Server Control Protocol on port 80
and then WMServer can stream over port 80.

Hope this helps,
Ravi
