I have a file 11.2 Mb movie file (.avi) from my Canon dig camera but it is
too large to email. I cannot see any way of reducing its size - any help
appreciated. Winzip only reduces the size marginally.

Using Windows XP on Pentium 4 computer with Canon Utilities installed.

If you were planning on sending it to another windows user, you could
grab lets say windows media encoder, to convert the AVI into a much
smaller WMV video file - usually you'll get at least 10:1 compression.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/encoder/default.aspx

Probably you'll only want to use the qizard which walks you through
the steps, basically after installing the program I'd pick from the
wizard :

1) Convert a file
2) Pick input AVI file and give the encoder a file name for saving as
3) Choose 'Web server' (progressive download)
4) Pick VHS Quality video and FM Quality audio

That gets you a couple of checkboxes (368 and 268 kbps data rates)

Pick lets say 268kbps. Next screen maybe give it a title and author
(none are required) and final screen, check the 'begin converting when
I click finish' box - and click finish ;-)

Your file will probably be encoded in about 10-15 seconds. Now you can
view the file when the encoder finishes, and if you're happy with it
and the file size, just attach it to the email.

If you can stand a bigger file and want better quality, pick the
368kbps box instead, and repeat the process above.

Cheers - Neil

Or you can use Movie Maker, which you should already have installed. Does
much the same thing.
